Relieving invisible wounds

Who are we?

We are a collective of hypnotherapists and ex-humanitarians who believe that hypnosis can support and preserve the mental health and psychosocial well-being of people responding to humanitarian needs and the civilian population in conflict zones.

  • Being a humanitarian is more than a job or a career: it is a philosophy of life, a responsibility, and a dream. To be a humanitarian is to help people manage a crisis with the means available at the time.

This philosophy and passion guided the founding members through their lives and their humanitarian careers and eventually brought them together in a passion - Hypno-imaginative techniques - and gave birth to the Association Hypnose Humanitaire AHH on June 3rd, 2021. Since then, the committee has grown by two people.

In the first year, we presented hypnosis in various webinars and conferences and taught Hypno-imaginative techniques to aid workers and refugees to reduce stress and build resilience. Our partners/clients include ICRC-Alumni, MINUSMA (UN peacekeeping mission in Mali), CoCreate Humanity, Toiles de vie, and others (to learn more, click here).

  • For us, humanitarian work is work with people, their relationships, and their functioning in society or institution. In other words, for us, humanitarian action is a whole in which people who need help must be empowered to help themselves and aid workers to help others

We want to share our knowledge of stress reduction techniques and resilience building so that people can access their own resources (mental, social, economic). We want to help individuals and communities create an environment in which they can support each other and build resilience to new crises or other difficult life circumstances.

  • In the humanitarian field, a distinction is usually made between psychosocial programs offered by institutions to people in crisis situations and psychological care/support for humanitarian workers. These supports are usually put in place after restoring basic services and security. Affected countries and institutions often have limited capacity to provide these types of services. Furthermore, even when such abuse exists, its use is not always guaranteed because the staff has too little time, is suspicious of reliability and confidentiality, or may not admit to the need for help.

Migrants/refugees may be reluctant to accept psychosocial support given the stigma in their country of origin. This creates spaces where they can be further supported.

This is where our work comes in: we work in a complementary way with the already established supports. We provide additional support by teaching both aid workers and people in crisis situations Hypno-imaginative techniques that allow them to reduce their stress and manage their emotions in a way that is autonomous, quick, and also applicable during a crisis situation.

AHH works in many different and individualized ways to give each person and institution a chance to live a healthy and productive life.

Our Goal

To disseminate hypnosis as a therapeutic tool in the field in Switzerland and abroad, in crisis and emergency contexts.

To make hypnosis accessible to all people affected by traumatic events.

  • Our team brings together specializations in the fields of public health, psychology, political science, anthropology and economics.

We analyze the needs, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks and the socio-cultural context in which the project in question is to be set up and carried out.

We evaluate our projects after each project phase. Through focus groups, case studies and training evaluations, we improve our methods, techniques and approaches and adapt them for various socio-cultural contexts. Based on these evaluations, we have developed a pedagogical methodology that uses images, sounds, pantomimes and translation applications to facilitate learning for people with limited language skills.

The results of the analyses are put into an end-of-project report and shared with the project partners and financiers. Finances are monitored and communicated throughout the projects.

We provide techniques and tools that can be used on a daily basis or as needed to manage emotions and stress levels. They can manage stress in a sustainable way. These techniques take only a few minutes and can be used for years.

Hypno-neuroimaginary coaching

Simple, quick, and easily applicable tools for stress prevention and management

  • Solution-oriented & brief

  • A "new" and modern tool

  • Applicable regardless of cultural context

  • Hypno-neuroimagination is a combination of solution-focused coaching, breathing techniques, imagination exercises, and a right-left link to stimulate the metabolism of the cerebral hemispheres. Sensory activation, multisensory anticipation, focused attention and stimulated and dissociated imagination access the body's regeneration system.

Neuroimaging research has shown that subjective changes in response to suggestion are associated with corresponding changes in brain regions related to the psychological function in question.

When a person imagines something in an altered state (a color, a sound, a physical activity and a pain), regions of the brain, similar to those that are activated when the person lives the experience in reality, are activated. For example, if one is able to intensely imagine a place where one feels safe, one may also feel a sense of security and safety at that moment. At that moment, the brain processes the experience of safety and security as if one were actually in a safe place. This strengthens the area of the brain or groups of neurons that are responsible for the feeling of safety. This feeling can then be activated more easily in the following situations.En outre, le coaching hypno-neuroimaginatif permet de réduire les hormones de stress.

In other words, hypno-neuroimaginary techniques can help manage emotions and stress and build resilience.
